High "Business and Economics" research quality in World University Rankings

In this year's World University Rankings 2024 by subject - Gdańsk University of Technology took 1st place among Polish universities in the areas of "Engineering" and "Physical Sciences" in terms of research quality and 3rd place in the area of "Business and Economics".

In total, Gdańsk University of Technology was classified in five fields. In addition to "Physical Sciences", "Engineering", "Computer Sciences" and "Business and Economics" included in the previous edition of the ranking, this year it was also classified for the first time in the "Life Sciences" area.

In the rankings for the areas of "Engineering", "Computer Sciences", "Business and Economics" and "Life Sciences", Gdańsk University of Technology was placed in the range of 601-800, and in the "Physical Sciences" ranking in the range of 801-1000.

New park in Wrzeszcz from Gdańsk University of Technology

Gdańsk University of Technology has created a new, attractive and green space for residents of Gdańsk. A public park with an area of approximately 7.5 thousand square meters was created in Wrzeszcz, on the slope of Góra Szubieniczna (Gallows Hill), right behind the Gdańsk Tech building equipped with the "Kraken" supercomputer.

At the end of April this year Gdańsk University of Technology has launched the most modern IT complex in Poland - the Gdańsk Tech STOS Competence Center. The "Kraken" supercomputer was placed in the basement of the facility. Its name was chosen by Tricity residents in an online vote. The culmination of the project was the development of the area around the complex.

Prof. Edmund Wittbrodt received the Pomeranian Griffin statuette in recognition of his activities for the development of Pomeranian education and for his involvement in the creation of local government in Pomerania, as well as for joint, hard work for the common good and development of the region.

The statuette commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Self-Government, which changed Pomerania and its importance in Poland and the united Europe. The prizewinner received it from Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, and Jan Kleinszmidt, chairman of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Assembly.

Dr. Beata Krawczyk-Bryłka at the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya

Recently, Dr. Beata Krawczyk-Bryłka participated in an international meeting of supercomputer users at the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya in Barcelona. The trip was part of the EuroCC² project, which involves 33 countries from across Europe. The project's aim is to provide access and technological support as well as training and advisory services for supercomputer users in the fields of science, industry, and public administration.

As part of EuroCC Poland CI TASK, Dr. Krawczyk-Bryłka's responsibility is to establish collaboration with Polish organizations involved in implementing digital solutions (e.g., DIHs) and with National Centers of Competence in HPC established in each partner country.

Summary of the conference "Income and Wealth Inequality: Drivers and Consequences"

From September 27 to 29, 2023, an international scientific conference titled "Income and Wealth Inequality: Drivers and Consequences" took place at Gdansk University of Technology. The event was organized by the Faculty of Management and Economics at Gdansk University of Technology in collaboration with the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS).

Over the course of three days, the conference featured the latest research achievements in the field of income and wealth inequality from theoretical, empirical, and comparative perspectives. The discussions also delved into the role of public policy and technological progress in the evolution of inequality, as well as understanding the economic and social consequences of increasing inequality.

Erasmus+ project implemented by Gdansk University of Technology

An Erasmus+ project led by Gdańsk University of Technology seeks better integration of the topic personal, professional and planetary well-being into education and not only.

Gdańsk University of Technology has recently begun a 36-month European Union funded Erasmus+ project named SWEPPP (Sustainable Well-being - education for personal, professional and planetary well-being), which will be running until August 2026 in co-operation with three European strategic partner institutions.

The inauguration of the Erasmus Program at FME

On Monday, 2.10 the academic year for Erasmus Program exchange students was inaugurated at the Faculty of Management and Economics. 

The event welcomed international students from France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey, and introduced them to the academic and extracurricular options available to them throughout the year. They were encouraged to embrace the host country's culture and university life.

With the academic year officially underway, the Erasmus Program promises a year filled with learning and cultural exploration.

The advancement of Gdańsk Tech in THE World University Rankings

In the latest edition of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2024, Gdańsk University of Technology has placed in the range of 1001-1200, moving up from the previous position of 1201-1500. Our university has achieved the highest year-on-year (YoY) increase in the overall score in the history of this ranking

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 included 1904 universities from 108 countries. Another 769 universities were not classified in the ranking but were given the "reporter" status, indicating that they provided data but did not meet the ranking criteria.

This year's ranking edition was based on a new methodology called WUR 3.0, which incorporates 18 carefully calibrated indicators grouped into five areas:

Rector's hours on the 2nd of October

In connection with the Inauguration of the Academic Year 2023/2024 on October 2nd at the Gdańsk University of Technology, there are established "Rector's hours" from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, which are free from academic classes.

As every year, the ceremony will begin with an inaugural speech delivered by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. After the official announcement of the new academic year by the Rector, there will be a presentation of medals and honors, including the awarding of the title "Personality of Gdańsk University of Technology" for the fourth time.
