Workshop Summary: Exploring AI and Digital Technologies in Public Services and Governance

Japan Meets Europe
On September 20, 2024, the Department of Informatics in Management at the Faculty of Management and Economics, Gdańsk University of Technology, successfully hosted a thought-provoking workshop focused on the potential of AI technologies to improve democratic services, public administration, and governance. Held in room 208, this gathering brought together leading scholars from around the world, underscoring the global importance of AI in shaping the future of public services.

The workshop opened with warm welcoming remarks from the organizer, Dr. Magdalena Ciesielska, followed by inspiring introductions from Prof. Michał Tomczak, Vice Dean for Cooperation and Development, and Prof. Tomasz Janowski, Head of the Department of Informatics in Management. Special greetings were extended to two scholars from Kyoto University, Dr. Jawad Haqbeen and Dr. Sofia Sahab, whose in-person participation contributed significantly to the richness of the discussions and exchanges.

Let’s go! Inauguration of the new academic year at Gdańsk Tech

The 2024/2025 academic year will begin with a ceremonial public meeting of the Gdańsk Tech Senate. The anniversary year inauguration will take place on October 2, at 11:15 am in the Main Building Auditorium. We welcome you to watch the online broadcast on the university's YouTube channel. 

The first meeting of the Senate in the new academic year is also the inauguration of the new term of office for the authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology - the rector, vice-rectors, deans and vice-deans. The ceremony will begin with a speech delivered by the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology,  Prof. Krzysztof Wilde. It will be followed by the awarding of medals and distinctions to distinguished University employees. 

Gdańsk Tech is the first technical university with two ACEEU accreditations

Gdańsk University of Technology received the decision of the Chair of ACEEU (Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities) to grant Gdańsk Tech ACEEU Entrepreneurial University Accreditation.

In this way, Gdansk University of Technology has become the first university in Poland and the first technical university in the world to have ACEEU accreditation in both the area of engagement and entrepreneurship! Work on obtaining both accreditations had been ongoing since October 2021. We received the first one – ACEEU Engaged University Accreditation – in June 2023. Work continued for another year to meet the ACEEU standards in the area of entrepreneurship, which was challenging for a technical university.

Gdańsk Tech moved up in the Shanghai Ranking

Gdańsk University of Technology has achieved a great success by moving up 100 places in the  Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking, which is recognized as the most prestigious ranking of higher education institutions in the world.

The ranking has been compiled since 2003. The exact place in the ranking is known only for the world's top 100 universities, and other places are listed in groups of 100 institutions only. For the fifth time in a row, Gdańsk University of Technology was included in the ranking, having moved up compared to last year, by placing in the 801-900 range of the world's best universities.

Acknowledgement to the Gdańsk Tech in EUA-IEP institutional evaluation

One year after the institutional evaluation of the "European University Association - Institutional Evaluation Program" (EUA-IEP), the university's actions in response to the June 2023 recommendations for improvement were acknowledged

Gdansk University of Technology confirmed its competences in the EUA-IEP Institutional Evaluation Program in 2023. First such evaluation took place in September 2018.

Race to Zero – Gdańsk Tech’s actions for climate

Gdańsk University of Technology has published a plan of actions it is taking and is going to take as part of the Race to Zero campaign. The initiative, launched in 2020 by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, focuses on striving to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The goal of the global initiative, the Race to Zero campaign, is to unite business leaders, cities, regions, investors and educational and research institutions in striving to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest.
