Gdańsk Tech moved up in the Shanghai Ranking | Faculty of Management and Economics at the Gdańsk University of Technology

The ranking has been compiled since 2003. The exact place in the ranking is known only for the world's top 100 universities, and other places are listed in groups of 100 institutions only. For the fifth time in a row, Gdańsk University of Technology was included in the ranking, having moved up compared to last year, by placing in the 801-900 range of the world's best universities.

“This is a huge success and evidence that the continuous work of the entire Gdańsk University of Technology academic community brings tangible results,” says Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech. “The promotion of our university in this prestigious ranking is the result of not only scientific and teaching excellence, but also strategic investments in staff development, research infrastructure and international cooperation.”

Traditionally, the podium of the ranking is taken by universities from the United States - Harvard University, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Eight Polish universities have been ranked in ARWU 2024. Among domestic universities, Gdańsk University of Technology is the third highest ranked (range 801-900). Only the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw were ranked higher, placing in the 401-500 range, while the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, AGH University of Kraków, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the Warsaw University of Technology and Wrocław Medical University were placed in the 901-1000 ranges.

“In the coming years, our goal is to further strengthen the university's position internationally, intensify scientific research and innovation in response to the challenges of the modern world, and become even more involved in the training of modern engineering professionals that are prepared to meet the demands of the global labor market,” adds Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech.

How is the Shanghai ranking made?

There are several indicators by which the universities from around the world are placed in the ranking:

• the number of graduates or employees who have been awarded the Nobel Prize or the Fields Medal,
• the number of scientists on the list of Highly Cited Researchers published by Clarivate,
• the number of articles in the scientific journals Nature and Science,
• number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index,
• the quantity of scientific achievements of a given university in relation to the number of academic staff.

In as many as four of the indicators listed above, Gdańsk University of Technology has improved its results, thanks to significant scientific achievements, compared to previous edition. Detailed results can be found on the ranking website
