The Department of Finance was established by the Order of the Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology, Prof. Edmund Wittbrodt, DSc, Eng., No. 9/96 dated May 15, 1996, with effect from October 1, 1996. Prof. Henryk Zalewski was appointed as the first head of the department.
The issues of post-Soviet states, particularly their economies, are relatively little-known and only sporadically addressed by academic centers in Poland. The Department of Eastern Studies strives to fill this gap. The department undertakes and analyzes selected economic and social issues of these states, as well as their economic relations with the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Community.

During the conference, the latest research achievements related to income and wealth inequality will be presented from theoretical, empirical, and comparative perspectives. The role of public policy and technological progress in the evolution of inequality will be discussed, along with an examination of the economic and social consequences of rising inequality.
The conference was held under the theme “Together in the unstable world: Digital government and solidarity”. The choice of the theme responded to the Gdańsk’s solidarity tradition and the unprecedented levels of instability due to war, pandemic, global warming, democratic breakup, and other causes facing the world in 2023.
The main objective of the project was to create a cross-sectional model for assessing the creditworthiness of households by emulating the practices of major credit providers. The most popular fields of study chosen by international students are computer science, architecture and management. Candidates can also choose from such prospective fields of study as green technologies and data engineering or study programs that are very unique to Gdańsk Tech and its seaside location, namely yacht design and construction. This is currently the only accreditation that assesses the social impact of a higher education institution on its environment, the quality of collaboration with external partners, the implementation of social responsibility, including sustainable development goals. The accreditation process at Gdansk University of Technology started in October 2021 and consisted of several stages, including self-assessment reporting, site visits and evaluations, and the provision of required information.
