The Department of Management was established almost 30 years ago, along with the creation of the Faculty of Management and Economics. For many years, it was led by Prof. Dr. Hab. Andrzej Tubielewicz, and from 2011 to 2013, by Prof. Dr. Hab. Eng. Edward Szczerbicki, who previously headed the Department of Knowledge and Information Management. Since 2013, the department has been headed by Dr. Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Leja, Prof. at the Gdansk University of Technology.
According to Henry Mintzberg's thinking, we consider management as a science, art, and craft. Therefore, we strive for the Department of Management to be a place where enthusiasts of both academic knowledge and practical experience in the broad field of management can develop their skills and share experiences.
We are particularly focused on international and intercultural research, teaching, and organizational activities. We perceive education globally and consider any boundaries between disciplines to be misguided.
We have a broad understanding of organizational management, encompassing both economic and humanistic aspects, without seeking to divide them. Commercial, public, and social organizations are equally important to us.
Our goal is to promote best practices that enhance the modernization of commercial, public, and social organizations because we are part of an institution serving the community.
Team The common denominator of every organization is people. All members of our team are important, regardless of their position or role. As academic teachers and doctoral students, we represent various scientific disciplines and sub-disciplines:
- Process management
- Sustainable development
- Knowledge management and economics
- Public finance and knowledge engineering
- Social communication and media sciences
- Media management
- Digital humanities
- Higher education research
- Experience management
- Augmented intelligence
We verify and enhance our competencies through collaboration with educational and research centers, especially in the Baltic countries, Scandinavia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Austria, Bulgaria, and Australia.
The academic staff's activities are supported by an administrative position.

Research The leading theme of research conducted in the department is managing the organization of the future. This theme arises from the belief that contemporary organizations, regardless of their sector, require the search for new solutions in organization and management.
We believe that future organizations will increasingly emphasize sustainable development. Therefore, our research aims to gain a better understanding of social phenomena and knowledge development in various management areas, as well as to utilize this knowledge to solve important problems in the environment. In this way, we align with the university's and faculty's third mission, which emphasizes social responsibility.

Education We consider education and teaching as inseparable and equally important activities. During teaching sessions, we guide students through knowledge, demonstrating management as a science, art, and craft. To improve our teaching skills, we take advantage of training programs offered by the Center for Modern Education at the Gdansk University of Technology.
The department's staff conducts teaching activities in the majors of Economic Analytics, Management, Economics, Engineering Management, Materials Engineering, Data Engineering, and Engineering and Management of Space Systems. Classes and diplomas are offered in both Polish and English.
