Rector's hours on the 2nd of October

In connection with the Inauguration of the Academic Year 2023/2024 on October 2nd at the Gdańsk University of Technology, there are established "Rector's hours" from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, which are free from academic classes.

As every year, the ceremony will begin with an inaugural speech delivered by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. After the official announcement of the new academic year by the Rector, there will be a presentation of medals and honors, including the awarding of the title "Personality of Gdańsk University of Technology" for the fourth time.

In the next part, the matriculation of students will take place. A total of 16 students, two representatives from each of the eight faculties who achieved the best results during the admission process, will take the oath. To conclude the event, Agnieszka Skotnicka, the Chairperson of the Student Council of Gdańsk University of Technology, will give a speech.

The ceremonial session of the Senate will also be an opportunity to present the Romuald Szczęsny Competition award for the best diploma thesis prepared at Gdańsk University of Technology, as well as distinctions for students who achieved the best academic results in the past academic year.

The culmination of the inauguration will be a lecture by Prof. Dr. hab. Andrzej Dragan from the University of Warsaw titled "What Sets Time Apart from Space?" Prof. Andrzej Dragan is a physicist who leads a research group focused on bridging the theory of relativity with quantum theory. He is the recipient of numerous scientific awards and a scholarship holder at the University of Oxford. He is also the winner of the "Photographer of the Year" title from the British magazine "Digital Camera" and a nominee for the Golden Lion at the Cannes Advertising Festival.

The musical accompaniment for the ceremony will be provided by the Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology under the direction of Prof. Mariusz Mroz

On this day, at 9:30 AM, the laying of wreaths at the Monument to Fallen Shipyard Workers is scheduled. Furthermore, at 7:00 PM, a Mass will be held at the church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz, dedicated to the new academic year, presided over by Archbishop Metropolitan of Gdańsk, Tadeusz Wojda.

Various faculties will organize ceremonies in different formats. Detailed information will be published on the faculty websites. We invite students who are starting their studies at Gdańsk University of Technology this year to familiarize themselves with the Freshman's Guide, which will facilitate their first days at the university.
