Department of Informatics in Management at the ICEGOV2025 conference in Abuja, Nigeria
The conference offered a rich program of keynotes, panel discussions, roundtables, and paper sessions, including the opening keynotes by the conference chairs Tshilidzi Marwala and Bosun Tijani. Tshilidzi Marwala is Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Rector of the United Nations University. Bosun Tijani is the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The conference was attended by 306 participants from 46 countries – 51% from government, 28% from academia, 14% from international organizations, and 7% from industry. In the ICEGOV tradition, it brought together research and policy audiences from across thematic, national, and development boundaries. It also showcased the work done by three specialized UN organizations: the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the United Nations University (UNU).
The Department of Informatics in Management was well represented at the conference, with Adegboyega Ojo serving as Co-Chair of the Programme Committee and Tomasz Janowski as the chair of the Awards Committee and a member of the Steering Committee. With Nina Rizun, they attended the conference and contributed to its program:
- Tomasz Janowski presented a keynote “Increasing the real-world impact of digital government research – Contextualize, internationalize, strategize”, partly based on the recent article “Reflections on the nature of digital government research: Marking the 50th anniversary of Government Information Quarterly”, published in Government Information Quarterly.
- Tomasz Janowski took part in the discussion panel “Collaboration for increasing the real-world impact of digital government research” attended by Sunil Choenni (Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, Netherlands), Olayinka David-West (Lagos Business School, Nigeria), and Marion Adebiyi (Nile University, Nigeria), and moderated by Yannis Charalabidis (University of the Aegean, Greece).
- Nina Rizun, Noella Edelmann (University for Continuing Education Krems, Austria), and Tomasz Janowski co-organized the workshop “AI-enabled co-creation in evidence-based policymaking – Modelling, reflection and refinement” building upon prior events: the workshop "Developing a Model for Sustainable Digital Co-Creation in the Public Sector" at EGOV2025 conference and the track "Sustainable and Ethical Public Service Co-Creation" at tDG.O2025 conference; and publications: "AI-enabled co-creation for evidence-based policymaking”, "Interdisciplinary Competencies for AI-Enabled Co-creation: Mapping Public Sector Skills in Poland and Ukraine"; and “Converging Paths? Co-creation practices in public services in Poland and Ukraine".
- Adegboyega Ojo and Nina Rizun attended the roundtable “Co-creation for better service delivery? The tenets of co-creation in the context of AI” attended by Abra Dangnan (Advocacy for Policy and Innovation, Nigeria) and Arpine Korekyan (UNDESA, United States), and moderated by Noella Edelmann.
- Nina Rizun presented a co-authored paper "Public Service Provision in Countries in Special Situations: Using Life Events, Online Service Index and AI to Close the Digital Divide and Prioritize Future Digital Public Services" in the session “Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Smarter and More Efficient Public Services”; the paper was nominated for the best research paper award.
- Nina Rizun, Magdalena Ciesielska, Tomasz Janowski, and others co-authored a paper „Co-Creation in Teaching Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Public Administration: A systematic literature review” presented at the session “Digital transformation and innovation in the Public Sector”.
- Tomasz Janowski co-chaired with Ekele Alih (Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria) and Harekrishna Mishra (BML Munjal University, India) the paper track on “New Metrics and Approaches for Measuring Digital Governance Success”.
