Inauguration of the new academic year at e Gdańsk University of Technology – 4 October
This year's inauguration ceremony for the new academic year will be held in a traditional form during the open session of the Senate of Gdańsk University of Technology. It will begin with a speech given by prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech.
It will be followed by the handing over of medals and decorations, including the award of the title of "Personality of Gdańsk University of Technology" and the awarding of prizes to the best students. Then a short film will be shown, prepared to welcome the new academic year by the faculty authorities.
The matriculation of students is the next part of the ceremony. The oath will be taken by 16 students - two representatives from each of the eight faculties who obtained the best results during the admission procedure. After the oath, Jakub Persjanow, chairman of the Gdańsk Tech Students' Self-Government, will take the floor.
At the end of the ceremonial session of the Senate, Joanna Sułkowska, PhD, DSc, professor at the University of Warsaw will conduct the inaugural lecture entitled "The impact of the development of artificial intelligence methods on human life". The scientist has been managing the interdisciplinary laboratory for modeling biological systems at the Center for New Technologies at the University of Warsaw since 2014.
As always, the Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology under the direction of prof. Mariusz Mróz, will take care of the musical side of the ceremony.
This year, there will also be celebrations in the form of faculty days. Detailed information will be published on the faculties' websites.
On 3 October, at 19.00, in the church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz, Tadeusz Wojda, Metropolitan Archbishop of Gdańsk, will celebrate a mass in the intention of the new academic year.
On the inauguration day, at 9:15, the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers is also planned.
