tech summit
Gdańsk University of Technology is once again one of the Polish technical universities that received the status of Academic Partner of the Women in Tech Summit conference, organized by the "Perspektywy" Educational Foundation. During the fourth edition of the event, five women will appear among the representatives of Gdańsk Tech: three scientists from the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics: Natalia Wójcik, PhD, Marta Prześniak-Welenc, PhD, Małgorzata Nadolska, MSc, Justyna Sudakowska and Atoosa Bahrani from the International Relations Office at Gdańsk Tech.

The aim of the Women in Tech Summit project is to support innovation processes in the field of IT and new technologies, as well as the international promotion of Poland as a place of high-quality IT education.

The two-day conference is to host over 5,000 talented women from Europe, Central Asia and the USA – including students, representatives of the academic environment and industry, IT specialists, experts in the field of STEM, representatives of the innovation sector and the world of public policy.

Exhibition area

As part of the Women in Tech Summit conference, an exhibition space will be designated, in which the stand of Gdańsk University of Technology will be located. Justyna Sudakowska and Atoosa Bahrani from the International Relations Office at Gdańsk Tech will present the possibilities of starting studies at Gdańsk Tech by candidates from the East.

Gdańsk University of Technology will also be represented during the event by three female scientists from the Faculty of FAPM:

• Natalia Wójcik, PhD, Eng. who deals with bioactive glasses and glass-ceramics used in bone implants (Bioactive glasses - in search of synthetic alternatives)

• Marta Prześniak-Welenc, PhD, Eng. and Małgorzata Nadolska, MSc, Eng., who are looking for new materials to purify water from substances such as pharmaceuticals or dyes.

The researchers have developed and patented a new method of synthesizing such materials that is environmentally friendly. Currently, the scientists are working on a composite of active material that would remove pollutants from water even more effectively. This material is in the form of carbon sponges that float in the water.

At the stand, the researchers will prepare and present an experiment showing the process of removing pollutants from water. Those interested will also be able to look at human bones and teeth, created thanks to the use of a 3D printer.

It is worth adding that in connection with the Women in Tech Summit 2022 event organized on 7–8 June, the TOP-100 Women in Al list has been prepared. During the conference, from the list of all women professionally associated with AI, the jury chaired by prof. Aleksandra Przegalińska will choose Top of the Top, i.e. 10 most outstanding AI experts in Poland (one in each category), who will receive the Excellence in AI Awards.

The nominations in the Al Research category was received, among others, by the researchers of Gdańsk University of Technology: prof. Bożena Kostek and Agnieszka Mikołajczyk, MSc, Eng. In the Al Rising Star category Alicja Kwaśniewska, PhD, Eng. Was nominated.
